happy fathers day

Mr. Reece does it all, diapers, laundry, songs, stories, bath time, middle of the night awakenings, endless games of peek-a-boo, you name it he does it and all while working full time! You are an extraordinary father! We love you!

no reservations

Anthony Bourdain has my dream job, traveling all over the world to eat. Yes, my aspirations are simple, I just want to eat good food. And so does Tony which is probably why I love him so much. It certainly doesn't hurt that he is witty, cantankerous and slightly foul (you know in a lovable way.) While my version of No Reservations would be painfully boring (imagine a travel and food show based on a Mormon vegetarian) I still have grand dreams of one day taking his place on the travel channel.

You can imagine my sheer delight when I heard he is coming to Salt Lake to speak, delight doesn't really describe it, he is pretty much a rock star to me. So my dear Mr. Reece, Joey and I are headed up to the SLC tomorrow to bask in all of Tony's glory. I cannot wait.

neverland lost

A portrait of Micheal Jackson, by Henry Leutwyler

"Henry Leutwyler went to photograph one glove and instead came back with a haunting book about Michael Jackson.

The idea, says Henry Leutwyler, was simply to photograph one of Michael Jackson’s glittering stage gloves. In April last year, before the singer’s death, a number of Jackson’s clothes and possessions were up for auction to raise money to clear his debts. For a magazine commission, Leutwyler went to the warehouse where they were being kept, but instead of photographing one glove, he came away with a far larger catch." -The Faded Glitter of Neverland, New York Times Article.

The Times article goes on to say how sad the shoot ended up being since Micheal had to auction off all these items to pay his debt. Leutwyler goes on to say how fascinating it was that the clothes were so worn, soiled and uncared for and therefore spoke so much more than a simple portrait ever could. Which is exactly why I love this kind of documentary photography so much. You see an unspoken side of a person. Amanda James has captured this with photographing the interior of her grandmothers home.

Needless to say Micheal Jackson had an incredible carrer, and an even more incredible fall from grace. Love him or hate him, he was a fascinating and talented musician.

so many projects . . .

I have had the good fortune to be working on some projects for the uber-talented Steve Tiek of Tiek Built Homes, and thanks to Steve I got the opportunity last week to shoot this gorgeous home built by master craftsman Benjamin Blackwelder. The home is phenomenal, truly a unique and beautiful structure. I cannot wait for you to see it in its entirety. But for now a sneak peek.

Stay tuned for some amazing stuff from Tiek Built Homes launching this week, I cannot wait!

memorial day weekend and technology hates me

Memorial Day Weekend was marvelous, lots of good food (the makings of any good time) and family of course. We finally started hanging pictures in our place, it only took us two years so by the time we are fully moved in and settled we will probably move again. "A" for effort I suppose.

I started working on a project for these guys, which I am so excited about and cannot wait to share and all of a sudden I can't load a single picture on my computer (and Hudson started teething and decided that sleeping though the night was not his scene, hence my lack of blogging .)

And so all I have to offer you are pictures from the iphone, which by the way my computer will not recognize and so I painstakinly e-mailed myself each and every one of the pictures below. But it is totally worth it since I discovered the oh so cool Hipstamatic app and have become insufferable and anti-social running around taking pictures of anything that will hold still for a moment.

So with out further adieu, a really long post.
