Marco Poko

Jump 4 my Grandma's 90th B-Day from Marco Poko on Vimeo.

My fearless cousin Marc base jumped off a cliff up Rock Canyon for my grandma's 90th birthday. Pretty sweet gift and she even got to be there to watch him do it! I hope I get to be 90 and have fearless daredevil grandsons!

something to look at

Since it has been weeks since my last post and I am still working on all the fun projects I have been doing this summer, I thought I would give you something to look at. And what is better to look at than this face? He makes my day everyday!

I hope to have a triumphant return to blogging sometime late this month. Happy September everybody!

carry on

Hooray my cousin Jeff is home! He was serving in the Calgary, Canada Spanish speaking mission. We are so glad to see that is home safe and sound!

I am in love with this picture that Marianne took at the Sacramento airport, it reminds me of that Shel Silverstein drawing of the garbage that Sara Cynthia Silvia Stout would not take out.

nine months

Our little one is nine months old! I can't believe he has been out as long as he was in. He has gone from adorable little blinking bundle to waving, crawling, standing, eating cheerios by himself, destroying (which started around 8 months and lasts till he is what, 25?) and has three teeth and continues to be the most joyous and incredible child ever. Just our humble and unbiased opinion of course, he is truly the best in the world!

Nie Nie & Alice Lane Home

Oh how I love Alice Lane Home, so imagine my sheer delight when I got to photograph a room designed by them for Stephanie Nielson of the Nie Nie Dialogs. Does it get much better than that? I think not.

Suzanne Hall is one of Alice Lanes head designers and she happens to be one of my dear friends. Suzanne is so gifted as a designer, (how great is her drawing of Nie nie's basement, pictured above) her heart and soul comes though in every thing she designs! She is an absolute joy to be around and it was so great to get to work with her. The ladies at Alice Lane Home are marvelous! And have you been inside their store? Magical. Jessica has put together a very talented team. I cannot wait to have them design my home someday (in the far, seemingly endless distant future. *sigh*)

If you are in the market for home design Alice Lane is the place and Suzanne Hall is your girl! And if you need your new home photographed for posterity and the whole of the internet contact me @ thereeceblog@gmail.com for pricing.

under construction

The lovely Jenna from Q.A. design is working her magic on my blog giving it a much needed face lift! If you are in need of design services Jenna is your gal. She is talented, fast and so much fun to work with (and she puts up with my endless questions and indecision, she is a saint!) Check out her blog here. I also have the pleasure of being a contributor with her on the Just Cook Already.

you know you're a mormon if

you think the 24th of July is a national holiday. And I did, for an embarrassingly long time. Hope you have a great weekend!

hiatus

Oh, blog. Dear e-mail.
I do miss you. And have been completely neglecting you.
But there are just more important things right now.

Like spending time with these guys

And once they go *sniff* *sniff* it will be back to work for me. I have some huge projects to edit and some blogs to improve. So see you in August!

Oh and-
I can't hardly wait to see this.

Every movie has been a huge disappointment compared to the books, so I am holding out hope with this one! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!

happy fathers day

Mr. Reece does it all, diapers, laundry, songs, stories, bath time, middle of the night awakenings, endless games of peek-a-boo, you name it he does it and all while working full time! You are an extraordinary father! We love you!

no reservations

Anthony Bourdain has my dream job, traveling all over the world to eat. Yes, my aspirations are simple, I just want to eat good food. And so does Tony which is probably why I love him so much. It certainly doesn't hurt that he is witty, cantankerous and slightly foul (you know in a lovable way.) While my version of No Reservations would be painfully boring (imagine a travel and food show based on a Mormon vegetarian) I still have grand dreams of one day taking his place on the travel channel.

You can imagine my sheer delight when I heard he is coming to Salt Lake to speak, delight doesn't really describe it, he is pretty much a rock star to me. So my dear Mr. Reece, Joey and I are headed up to the SLC tomorrow to bask in all of Tony's glory. I cannot wait.

neverland lost

A portrait of Micheal Jackson, by Henry Leutwyler

"Henry Leutwyler went to photograph one glove and instead came back with a haunting book about Michael Jackson.

The idea, says Henry Leutwyler, was simply to photograph one of Michael Jackson’s glittering stage gloves. In April last year, before the singer’s death, a number of Jackson’s clothes and possessions were up for auction to raise money to clear his debts. For a magazine commission, Leutwyler went to the warehouse where they were being kept, but instead of photographing one glove, he came away with a far larger catch." -The Faded Glitter of Neverland, New York Times Article.

The Times article goes on to say how sad the shoot ended up being since Micheal had to auction off all these items to pay his debt. Leutwyler goes on to say how fascinating it was that the clothes were so worn, soiled and uncared for and therefore spoke so much more than a simple portrait ever could. Which is exactly why I love this kind of documentary photography so much. You see an unspoken side of a person. Amanda James has captured this with photographing the interior of her grandmothers home.

Needless to say Micheal Jackson had an incredible carrer, and an even more incredible fall from grace. Love him or hate him, he was a fascinating and talented musician.

Happy Birthday Mr. Reece

Happy Birthday to my Husband. You are absolutely my favorite person in the world and I love you more than words could ever say. Cirum em kez. I love you.

so many projects . . .

I have had the good fortune to be working on some projects for the uber-talented Steve Tiek of Tiek Built Homes, and thanks to Steve I got the opportunity last week to shoot this gorgeous home built by master craftsman Benjamin Blackwelder. The home is phenomenal, truly a unique and beautiful structure. I cannot wait for you to see it in its entirety. But for now a sneak peek.

Stay tuned for some amazing stuff from Tiek Built Homes launching this week, I cannot wait!
